We’ve got the power

What a week of sweltering heat and sunshine. Unfortunately, with climate change these heat waves are only going to become more intense and more frequent.

A silver lining for us is that just last week we had our solar array (72 panels) hooked up to our battery storage and to the grid. In just 10 days (admittedly 10 very sunny 😎 mid-summer days) we generated over 1,600kWh of power.

To put that in context we used less than 1000kWh in our rented house in a cold, wet January this year, when we had to resort to fan heaters to keep us warm. Or put another way 1,600kWh would allow us to fully charge our 65kWh Kia Niro EV 25 times 😊

Our excess power has been exported to the grid. Unfortunately we are waiting for Octopus Energy to set us up so they pay us for energy we export. In the meantime we have the consolation of knowing that we are doing our bit to reduce the UK's reliance on oil and gas.
