This section will be all about the build on site - from breaking ground for the foundations through to final decoration, furnishing and landscaping. 

Planning Permission

The precursor for any construction is the planning process. Different types of development take different routes through the process.  Our build is one of six self-build houses being constructed on the land and the land owner went down the route of submitting a request for Outline planning permission. At this stage the local planning authority (LPA) looks at the development in terms of, amongst other things:

  • need - does it meet a need for housing in the district
  • access - are Highway's requirements going to be met around access roads, junction safety ...
  • quality, aesthetics and fit with the locality. 

One of the documents used to help the LPA understand the development and to constrain what gets built is a Plot Passport.
